And the training begins...
I had my first training session today. Tony, from class, is a runner/cycler and is helping me train for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure on October 17, 2009. The race is going to be here in Virginia Beach and is to raise money for breast cancer. I am sure that we all have at some point in our lives have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. There is a 5K timed run and a 5K untimed run/walk. My goal is to be in the 5K run and not come in last! We will see. Tony says that I will be able to run a 5K my August but I have so much weight to lug around right now. I really did good with the jogging thing this morning but I just give out of breath too easy. It is not that my body is unwilling, my lungs are unwilling. I have breathing exercises to do to help incresase my lung capacity and then jogging/walking three times a week for the next two weeks will hopefully get me to where I can go a bit longer and farther. I think I may have managed to jog 50 yards at one point but that is about all I could do at one time. No worries I will get there. I went and got me some good running shoes today. My sneakers that I had on this morning gave me blisters!!! Yuck!!! Now I have some shoes that fit me well. I went to Running Ect. to get my shoes. They watched me jog and looked how my feet were hitting the ground and how I was pushing off and all that stuff. Then we tried a few shoes and found ones that were really nice. I got the Asics GT-2130 Stability Running Shoe. It is a comfortable fit and did not make my blisters that I got this morning hurt any worse. I am looking forward to running again in a couple of days. We are plannig on running on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for right now.
